PEX-A vs Type L copper for a whole-house repipe in Orange County
Updated: Sep 16
Intro (answer-first)
For most South Orange County homes, a whole-house repipe means replacing the aging interior water supply — usually tired copper — with either PEX-A (expansion) or Type L copper. Repipe OC specs the material after a walkthrough of your house, water chemistry, and access. Shop: 23821 Hillhurst Drive, Laguna Niguel, CA 92677. Call (949) 524-2362. CSLB 1087885.
When PEX-A is the usual pick
• Interior supply in slab or framed walls where flexibility reduces fittings
• Hard, chloramine-treated municipal water that pits old copper from the inside
• Stay-in-home jobs where fewer open walls matter
We use Ferguson-sourced PEX-A expansion systems. We do not treat PEX-B as the default whole-house answer.
When Type L copper makes sense
• Homeowner wants metal throughout
• Specific stub-outs, hose bibs, or hybrid designs (PEX interiors + copper at fixtures)
• Local preference or HOA notes that favor copper at terminations
We do not install Type M as the new whole-house system.
Hybrid
Common on attached product and remodel work: PEX interiors with copper stub-outs and hose bibs. The walkthrough writes which is which.
Warranty
25-year transferable parts and labor on the supply pipes and fittings we install. Not a lifetime claim. Transfers with the house. Permits are filed with the city of the job.
Do you publish prices? No. Written estimate after walkthrough.

FAQ
Is PEX as durable as copper? For potable interior supply in South OC water, PEX-A expansion is the material we most often install because it does not pit the way aging Type M / tired copper can. Type L remains available when metal is the right call.
Do you stay in the house during a repipe? Yes for residential whole-house work. Water is restored as scheduled at the end of the workday.
Are you licensed? Yes — C-36, CSLB 1087885.
